How often do you find yourself speaking negatively to and about yourself? Positive self image starts with how you identify yourself to others.
Being in the beauty industry I often encounter many people who will quickly identify the things about themselves that they don't like, but rarely do I connect with individuals that speak positivity about themselves. Why is it so easy for us to speak negatively about ourselves? Better yet, why can't we set the standard of speech that we allow from others by practicing it ourselves?
Speaking positive affirmations about who we are becomes the everyday embodiment and belief system that we carry about ourselves. When we allow negative emotions and speech to creep in it impacts the way that we allow others to perceive, talk, and treat us.
Just recently I encountered a woman who sat in my chair and the first words from her mouth were "I'm fat and ugly, I don't know how you're going to help me." The first thing I noticed about her was her vivacious personality, her ability to communicate, and how friendly and warm her spirit was. Physical attributes are the things the beauty industry focuses on, but the beauty that I see as an artist is the way that your spirit outshines your exterior. In the short time I had with her, I challenged this beautiful soul to tell me 3 positive things about herself and before our departure from one another I challenged her for 2020 to "Be more kind to herself".
Doing hair and makeup is the service I provide, but the reason I work relentlessly is the passion I have for being a beacon of light and hope for everyone I encounter; transforming lives one person at a time.
